Q:My thumb does not straighten out like it should it pops up with pain.
A: A lack of thumb rang of motion can be caused by a number of factors. If you have had a trauma in the past you may have sprained a ligament. As that ligament heals, movement is necessary to ensure the joint will have its full ROM. If you did not sustain a trauma, it may be an overuse condition like arthritis or even tendonitis. I would suggest applying ice and do easy pain free range of motion exercises. If the symptoms continue seek help from a doctor and get physical therapy.
