knee pain

I met with an accident 20 years back whereby my left knee was hit bluntly by another 2-wheeler head on, maybe something got broken within the knee, no fracture was identified, knee was immobilized for 45 days in a plaster cast, then removed, and physical therapy. It took about 45 more days for me to feel alright and to get rid of the sensation of falling when going downstairs as if the knee joint is going to run ahead of me.

Now 20 years later in midnight of a hot night with temp around 40 C, at night the knee got locked and straightening it caused me to wake up in the middle of night with excruciating pain. This was maybe one year back, but then on my knee gets stiff and painful when it is exposed to air-conditioned environment and lately on a hot day (40 C}, simple fan air at night makes it stiff and painful.

The worst part is NSAIDs have stopped working, straight leg raise and stretching are not working.

I have not tried ice therapy till yet, I will try that also.

MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH IT OR I AM GOING TO NEED A SURGERY.

THE PAIN IS ON THE INNER SIDE MIDPORTION OF THE KNEE.

HI,

You have a very interesting history. Sensitivity to cold or heat in the manner you are describing is quite unusual. If you have not had your knee evaluated recently I would have a new work up performed. The symptoms you are describing may not be specifically linked to your previous injury.

I would highly suggest trying to use ice. Get another opinion from an orthopedic doctor. I would be very surprised if this is in any way a surgical condition.

Good luck.
