clicking in right achilles tendon

Question:

I have developed painless clicking in the right achilles tendon due to over use in marathoning. it clicks each time i stretch the tendon even while sitting on a chair. it clicks more frequently after long runs of 20 miles. i am worried about tendon rupture. will it increase even more? i am a professional marathoner, so i can not take a long break of more than 15 days. please suggest me on its treatment and strength.

Answer:

Clicking and popping of joints and tendons are not an indication that there is something wrong, unless there is pain associated with it. Since there is no pain I would not be worried about it. You have no increased risk of a rupture than a person that does not have clicking. Of course, as a long distance runner, doing calf stretching should be part of your regular routine. If you continue to maintain good calf flexibility you should be fine.

Re: clicking as well

I too am experiencing this and am a runner. I was diagnosed with achilles tendonitis, but without pain I question if that is correct.
