Is MonaVie Active
a good joint supplement?

MonaVie Active, an Acai berry juice, is a new arthritis supplement that is lesser known but gaining popularity. Will taking this Acai juice help to reduce your arthritis symptoms? What about its antioxidant properties? What does the research say about using this juice to help relieve joint pain?

MonaVie is a fruit juice blend of 19 fruits, the main ingredient being the Açai berry. The Açai berry has gained a lot of attention over the past few years after a research study found the freeze dried berry to have the highest level of antioxidants of any fruit or vegetable ever tested (15-20 times more than blueberries).

MonaVie Active Because of the Açai and other fruits in the blend, drinking 4 oz. of MonaVie provides the antioxidant equivalent of 13 servings of fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants are an important part of our diet and few Americans obtain the required daily level of antioxidants. Antioxidants function by destroying free radicals in our bodies and assist in producing anti-inflammatory effects.

In addition, the Açai berry itself has been shown to have anti-inflamatory properties. The berry functions as a COX-2 inhibitor (reducing inflammation) and is high in Omega fatty acids. MonaVie Active contains not only the Açai berry and 18 other nutrient dense fruits but it also contains a liquid glucosamine for joint health.

Based on the research available, this is what we do know about MonaVie:

• The freeze dried Açai in MonaVie is the only form of Açai that maintains the nutrient content of the berry. Processing the berry by other means significantly reduces the nutrient content. MonaVie holds the patent on this freeze dried process.

• Research has found the freeze dried Açai in MonaVie to be extremely high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.

• In a double blind, placebo controlled, cross over study, MonaVie was found to be highly bioavailable (enters cells when consumed) and performs both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities within cells when consumed.

• During a 12 week study on MonaVie, all participants showed a statistically significant improvement in range of motion with regard to the lumbar spine and knees. In addition, participants noted a significant decrease in perceived generalized discomfort at weeks 8 and 12.

Note: I would like to disclose that I am a consumer of MonaVie Active. I do so in order to insure that I receive my needed daily antioxidants and associated nutrients. The liquid glucosamine also helps with joint health. As a manual physical therapist I have experienced joint pain, specifically hand pain symptoms secondary to overuse. Consuming MonaVie has been essential in minimizing these symptoms.
